Re: Soul Calibur
Hmm... Well, it is just probably online play's fault or something...jeswd wrote:^Well, it only happens in SCIV, not in Tekken..
Re: Soul Calibur
Soul Blade was good for its time (though a sorry sight by today's standards). It was basically Tekken 2 with weapons and an expanded story mode (Which is still one of the best in the series). Plus, this game featured Cervantes as his rightful place as primary villain before Nightmare ever existed and Siegfried was just a whiny little teenager. Kids don't even know about this game lol
Soul Calibur was pretty incredible for its time and is still a blast today (which proves that the series hasn't evolved much). Sure, there were a lot of "clones" and the extra weapons from Soul Blade were gone, but Soul Calibur had so much content and fluid gameplay that it made up for any minor shortcomings.
Soul Calibur II took the first game and improved upon it in every way. To this day, Soul Calibur II remains my all-time favourite fighting game (even better than Tekken). Of course, it's hard to go back to it now, since everybody wants to play the new games. The fact that the sequels were so lackluster makes me kinda wish Soul Calibur II was still the most recent game in the series.
Soul Calibur III is an oddity. On the one hand it has hands down the best and most extras, unlockables, and modes in the entire series. An expanded and improved Story Mode, a brand new strategy game with its own story, dozens of challenges, a character creator, etc. It's so unfortunate that the gameplay felt like a step-backwards from Soul Calibur II (and in some ways, even SCI). Yeah, every character from the entire series was in this game and "de-cloned", but many characters had less moves than before and some characters (Ivy, Nightmare, Voldo) were so drastically different that it was like learning a new character. It doesn't help that the game's balance was horribly broken.
Soul Calibur IV is somewhat the opposite of SCIII. The gameplay has been more refined (though still not on SCII's level) and the graphics obviously are gorgeous. Online play is the big factor here and so it's a shame that Namco didn't bother trying to improve it any from Tekken DR's awful online. The character creator is back and more robust, which is great, but other than that, all the modes from SCIII were gone. All we are left with is a "Story Mode" that uses three same 3 cutscenes for every character and a frustrating challenge mode with weak rewards. Also, what's the deal with only one new character and the removal of a few others?
Oh yeah and ugh, Cervantes FTW.
SC2 Nightmare is pretty cool too.

Re: Soul Calibur
I started playing SCIV few weeks ago. I play mostly with Amy, Setsuka, Tira, Xianghua, Talim and Cassandra. =P
Re: Soul Calibur
I first got to this series through Soul Blade/Edge back then for PS1. Eventually I stopped playing it (and returned it to my friend, as the game was borrowed from him). Years later, I am walking to a Tax Free -shop in the cruise -> Soul Calibur 3. "Hmm, I wonder what this is?"
I took a look at the back cover, and I saw names Taki and Voldo. "Hey, I remember those from Soul Blade!"
I was so getting the game. And I still have it. No other Soul Calibur game can match the awesomeness SC3 has. The best single player fighting game experience to date in my opinion. And I have played this game many, many times with friends too. Nightmare, Siegfried, most of the characters were at their best. Tira used to be bad-a** in that game, while she's now "be-a-good-girl" for a second and "be-a-bad-girl" the next. Raphael: "Where are you going?" xD Yoshimitsu is as goofy as ever.
Soul Calibur 2... Heihachi(PS2 version). And Link(GameCube version) as well. Would like to try Spawn(XBox version) too. A solid fighting game. Yun Seong -> Reminds me of Hwoarang. Seemly shares some kicks with him.
Soul Calibur 4.... all that content from SC3 washed away... Online play? Sorry, no thanks in this case. Plus, the gameplay is a lot slower.
But at least guest characters were back, as they were absent in SC3. And how many times I've heard "Die!", "Are you ready...(to die)", "Disappear!" etc...
I have yet to still play Soul Calibur 1.

Nightmare's Soul Calibur 3 counterpart is my absolute favourite Nightmare. "I'll burn you alive!"greekman wrote:Algol and Nightmare FTW!!!
Re: Soul Calibur
I have Broken Destiny it has Kratos!!!!
i'm soo gonna main him!! along with Nightmare, and Cervantes, and Algol
It's very good game, kinda for begginers, there is this new starng character call dampierre or something like that, he looks like a wuss, but he is tricky
it has character creation mode and character costumization.
still i haven't played it that much, i don't have much free time now...

If you do, go with Soul Calibur 3. Nah, just kidding. Play any Soul -game you want.kazamafan15 wrote:I should start playing it againjeswd wrote:I started playing SCIV few weeks ago. I play mostly with Amy, Setsuka, Tira, Xianghua, Talim and Cassandra. =P
Re: Soul Calibur
Soul Calibur 3 is one of the best but my favourite is Soul Calibur 2 and after that SCIV (thanks to the apprentice and darth vader)
Re: Soul Calibur
Darth vader's Prologue in more Star Wars style I will do Yoda's and Starkiller's also
Re: Soul Calibur
I like Sophitia, Hilde, Xianghua, and Tira is just so funny. I like her childish side.
When it comes to fighting style I like Seong Mi Na / Angol Fear's. I'd say that's what I play best with.
I also love the character customization in SC4.

Heh, I don't like Tira's childish side. She used to sound so bad-a** in Soul Calibur 3...Shooshkabob wrote:and Tira is just so funny. I like her childish side
By a long shot, this game's character creation/customization didn't satisfy me (again). I wonder what the Broken Destiny one has....Shooshkabob wrote:

Re: Soul Calibur
It's a PSP port of Soul Calibur IV. It has Kratos as a 3rd party character instead of the Star Wars characters that were the 3rd party characters in Soul Calibur IV. It seems to have some tracks from previous Soul Calibur games as extra...Shooshkabob wrote:It's strange, but I've never heard about Broken Destiny...
Re: Soul Calibur
"Go back now and i will let you live!!!" Kratos

Re: Soul Calibur
I said this before, but I like Tekken's story so much better. I feel there's MORE of a story to it! I like the character customization, but Tekken is more satisfying.

for me it's the opposite I am not playing T6 anymore since I started playing SCIV againAdmin wrote:I haven't touched SC4 since I got Tekken 6.
