That's Microsoft they are never original.
Eh, I say all three console manufacturers have their ups and downs. Microsoft definitely likes to take the competitions ideas and make them their own, but often times they do improve on them. Xbox Live is better than Dreamcast, Sony, or Nintendo's online services (albeit more expensive, though still only $50 a year). Microsoft's avatars are perhaps the most shameless copies of Nintendo's Miis, but you have to admit they do look a dollop better and feature more robust customization. Project Natal is clearly influenced by Nintendo's motion-controlled path and there are similarities to Sony's Eyetoy here too, but it's still more original than the Sony Wand. Overall, Microsoft indeed copies its competition and loves to nickel and dime its consumers... but they usually do improve on the products they steal.

Sony is a really creative force in the industry and are always coming up with fun, quirky software (Little Big Planet) and add-ons (Playstation Eye). Not all of their creations always turn out so great though, and are often times quickly abandoned (Sixaxis). You can't really say Sony doesn't rip off it's competition either -- they are notorious for stealing concepts from Nintendo since the PS1 (analog control, shoulder buttons, rumble, motion control, etc.) while also looking down on their competition in complete arrogance. Overall, Sony is always coming up with stuff ranging from kiddy to adult to just plain weird... a one time industry leader, it's almost sad to see them in the state they are now, playing catchup to Microsoft and Nintendo, while pretending everything is under control. Perhaps the Slim will turn the tide?

Nintendo is easily the most creative and innovative console developer of the last few generations. They are constantly coming up with something new that either becomes the standard (analog sticks, shoulder buttons, rumble, and soon, motion controls), or crashes and burns (Virtual Boy, E-Reader, Powerglove, etc.). Nintendo always seems to give off a jolly attitude, even when they're being crushed and copied by their competition. It's probably ironic then that one of Nintendo's biggest shortcomings is their ignorance (and arrogance) towards just about everyone. Nintendo likes to tell everyone what they like and refuse to adhere to the norms and standards set by modern gaming. Overall, it's hard to tell where Nintendo will go once the Wii craze dies down. Surely they won't get away with creating a Wii 2 and essentially create another Gamecube with a new gimmick and try to convince casual soccer mom's and grandparents to buy a new system. But Nintendo also isn't interested in the core market and believes that the GCN's graphics had reached a stalemate. Uh oh.
